Morphological Variations of Lingula in South Indian Mandibles
نویسنده
چکیده
The ramus of mandible presents on its medial surface a little above its centre an irregular foramen called the mandibular foramen. This foramen is guarded by a thin sharp tongue shaped projection in its proximity called the lingula. This foramen transmits the inferior alveolar nerve and the corresponding artery to the mandibular canal (Grays) [1]. Here in , the nerve supplies the pulps of all the teeth located on lower jaw and ends by by supplying the lower lip and skin over the chin by its terminal branch, the mental nerve emerging from the mental foramen.

Morphological Study of the Lingula in Adult Human Mandibles of Brazilians Individuals and Clinical Implications
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this research was to study, in macerated adult human mandibles, the height of the lingula and provide morphometric data for its location considering aspects such as shape of the lingula, gender, and race. MATERIAL AND METHODS 132 macerated mandibles of Brazilian adult individuals, both sexes, Amerindian and Caucasian, were used. The distances: from mandibular notch t...
متن کاملMorphological evaluation of the mandibular lingula using cone-beam computed tomography.
BACKGROUND Lingula is a tongue-like flap of bone that overlaps the mandibular foramen antero-medially and location is clinically significant in oral and maxillofacial surgeries. The aim of this study was to assess the shape and precise location of lingula using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). MATERIALS AND METHODS In this study, 3-dimensional images provided by CBCT of 63 patients (28 f...
متن کاملCone Beam Computed Tomographic Analysis of the Shape, Height, and Location of the Mandibular Lingula in a Population of Children
OBJECTIVES This is the first study to identify and classify the different morphological shapes of the mandibular lingula (ML) in children using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). MATERIAL AND METHODS A retrospective study was performed to evaluate the shape, height, and location of the ML in relation to the surrounding structures using CBCT images of mandibles obtained from 269 children. T...
متن کاملObservation of the position of the lingula in relation to the mandibular foramen and the mylohyoid groove.
There are contradicting data and reports regarding the position of the mandibular lingula in relation to the mandibular foramen and the mylohyoid groove. The current observation attempts to describe the location of the lingula in relation to the mandibular foramen, and the location of the mylohyoid groove in relation to the lingula and mandibular foramen. Fifty adult black Tanzanian mandibles w...

The margin of the mandibular foramen is irregular. Lingula is a tongue-like flap of bone that overlaps the mandibular foramen anteromedially .It is surmounted by a sharp spine, the lingual of the mandible which gives attachment to the spheno mandibular ligament; at its lower and back part is a notch from which the mylohyoid groove runs obliquely downward and forward, and lodges the mylohyoid ve...
